The Hackman Scholars
Program is a summer research program established by William M. and Lucille
M. Hackman. It brings students together with faculty to work on challenging,
high-level research projects. Ranging from art and sociology to chemistry
and geosciences, these projects enable students to experience first-hand
the excitement (and also the frustration) of advanced scholarly work.
The projects take place during ten weeks in the summer; the current
stipend is $3,200. The projects may be continued during the academic
year. In many cases, the work ultimately leads to publication in a professional
journal and/or presentation of results (or performances) at professional
meetings. Typically, nearly 60 students and 40 faculty members
participate each summer.
Of course, the
only way to really experience F&M is to visit. But, since we’re
fairly certain you’re not here now, the next best thing is by taking
advantage of our virtual tour and visit planner. You’ve probably
seen these before, but ours is as cool as they come.
